I have finished all but the shawl. And there are more unfinished still on their needles.

I hand quilted on of 3 quilts that are ready to quilt. And watched a lot of Netflix. movies. Most of which are episodes of McLeods Daughters. A TV program in Australia. Too bad it didn't play in the US. It was great. They have finished the show with 8 seasons but I am only up to the 6th season. Those of you who get subscribe to Netflix might like to try it out.

Only in the last week I have gotten outside to plant a few vegetable plants. and the week before I planted Basil seeds and Cilantro seeds. Both are growing well in large pots outside. Oh and I have lost 5 lbs. And if you find it you can keep it. I am through with it forever.

It is after 5pm and time to take Tasha on her second walk of the day. Then we can both think about supper. White corn on the cob and cucumber and strawberry salad. Yum. I hope all of you are well. I must have thought it was very clever or I would not keep bringing back into my mind. I know she didn't create it but it may be something she learned as a girl herself. But it sure could be used now in this economy. At least it helps to curb yourself if you are heading to the store to spend. I am not against spending altogether but spending selectively is more to the point. ALTHOUGH----my family knows I spend $2.50 on Starbucks way too often. I know this because the weeks are flying by. What has happened to planning to do something and having it come in a timely fashion?? I used to get a lot more done in a days time. I know because I raised a large family. I don't think it is JUST because I am getting older. My kids are having the same problem. The world is turning faster and faster. Maybe it will just whirl off into space in little tiny pieces. Then maybe.... Oh well I could imagine a planet that was what... slower? Okay that was fun. I guess I better get something done. I am alive and kicking. We just had what is called a snowstorm in eastern N.Carolina. Not complaining. What we had was just enough, thank you. But now I am done with it. It was in the teens for temps. and a couple inches of snow and blowing like crazy. And then it didn't get above freezing for two days. But today it will melt with sunshine and 40's.

Tasha had never seen snow and she was afraid of it at first and wanted to run back inside. Once I started throwing snowballs instead of tennis balls it was more fun. Then it became difficult to get her out of it. This morning I will be testing the country roads and meeting with the knitting group. We are trying hard to knit the same sweater vest with everyone at different levels of aptitude. And those of us that are "more experienced" are having a bit of trouble with this pattern. Kinda funny really. An example of the blind leading the blind.

I guess since I haven't posted since Nov. you could call it hibernation. But I have a lot to do before the good weather returns. I have challenged myself this year to reading 52 books for the year. And another challenge is it finished one already started knitting, quilting or cross stitch project per month. Maybe I should just say 12 this year. Some are smaller than others. That should clear out a lot of book stacks and sewing room. That is the goal. Until next time, Smile

Some Bliss for a November Day

Lots of yellow butterflys, tiny wild daisys, cotton being harvested in the fields, hay bales piled in the other fields and a freshly bathed and dried dog and a 60 degree day. The public radio station was already playing so I left it. Car Talk was the program that was playing. I hope you have heard that program to better understand that as I listened I found myself grinning from ear to ear. Continuously. I felt a little silly when I passed other cars and thought the must think I am crazy to be grinning from ear to ear while driving. These guys are so funny/silly they could make a pickle smile. I am not really interested in cars but it does help bring on a good mood. I felt better all day. I think the past week has been more like October should have been. October here was unpredictable. You dressed in the morning ready for the day. HA HA It is almost as if mother nature was playing a game. I took to carrying layers of clothing in the car if I went out. Wind, rain, sun you name it.

A couple of days ago Tasha and I were walking on our dirt/gravel road. Well actually Tasha had her nose to the ground and wasn't watching around her. We rounded a bend in the road and she looked up. A large rolled round hay bail had just been harvested and was only a couple yards off of the road. Her ears went up, barked like crazy and turned and headed for home dragging me behind. I felt like the sled and she was the sled dog. Every couple yards she would turn around (bark) and look as if she thought it was following her. Funny! I won't get that out of my mind for quite a while. She has been a great buddy. The only problem we have with each other is I don't speak dog and she does't speak English.

When I titled this blog I didn't realize how day to day my life was going to be. But life is one day after the other. Some are good and some not so good. But since I hate to pass on the bad days I try to think of the good things that happens in my life. So maybe this blog may seem fluffy or silly but maybe that is as it should be. Let's try not to dwell on the worst of our day but the best of our days. I will quit right here. I know I had my mind on a lot of things but didn't seem to be getting anything done. I am making myself a promise to pick myself up by my bootstraps and get my life oranized.

I want to cut back on some expenses and map out my days with what I have to do. I know have been writing lists but but not ON a calendar. This is beginning to sound like what you might organize on January 1. But maybe the holidays need to be mapped on the calender too.

We didn't have one trick or treater last night. We live too far out on a dirt road. And I think more families are having parties and church trunk or treat parties. It seems a safer way to do it. Since tonight we loose an hour I decided to get up today at regular time and bake scones and fix a pot of coffee and read my book (Sue Grafton's T is for Trespass) in my pj's. Tasha thought it was a good idea too. I don't think Tasha will care about the time change. We shall see.

Now that I have taken this break in my reading I will get back to it and promise to write more and with a better attitude. And thank you dear sister for the "remembering Mark". It brought tears. Had to get a new one. Lucky it was under warrenty. Not so lucky it was not backed up and I have been slow in regaining what I needed. I am still not 100%. But that is what happens when you don't back things up.

I spent some time at a son's house to attend a 4 year old's Birthday. The visit was fun but tiring. I boarded Tasha and missed her a lot. Tasha and I are back now and have some catching up to do. Whenever I open the cereal/snack drawer Tasha (my sweet puppy) comes running. She might have been at the other end of the house sound asleep. And I will take care to be VERY quiet. She comes running. Of course she also comes running when I reach for her snacks. But she would rather have mine. Probably has something to do with suger and salt. Both of which I should not be eating much of either. Ooops, Maybe I should not change the location of the snacks and just not eat as many of them. Hmmmm. She likes the sound of the freezer door too because I have given her ice chips a lot this summer.

We have had a lot of "cooler" nightimes lately. Very nice for saving AC $ and opening the windows. Sounds of crickets and tree frogs and owls. I am still reading a lot and knitting but the quilting will have to wait until it is cooler since I hold the quilt in my lap while quilting on it. I tried spreading it out on the dining table while working on it but I start feeling it in my shoulders working that way. I am reading about a lot of muscle problems in people that spend a LOT of time knitting and quilting. I am trying not to let that happen. If it starts hurting take a break and do something else using a different muscle group.

Today I am working an hour or so on "organizing" my sewing room. And it is making me feel guilty for having such a large stash of fabric and yarn. But also makes m realize Christmas is just 4 months away. I do have all good intentions of creating some at least of the Christmas presents again this year. Wish me luck on the organizing. Somedays I think I should get rid of some of it. I don't see them very much. I am enjoying going out in the morning to the car AC and driving to knitting group. And then being back in the house for the afternoon. I am also working with a group quilting but at the moment we are helping to make curtains for a teen home. Next week the knitting group is getting together an extra day to play Phase One. I have never played but I intend to learn. This group is a hoot. We meet in a coffee/ice cream shop. I hope we don't get thrown out for all the laughing a bunch of old ladies can do.

Tasha is doing a lot of sleeping. She really is a hot dog. I hope you all are getting along ok in the heat of summer. Drink plenty of water. I am constantly having to brush and vacuum after her. But she seems to like the summer except for being right in the sun. I have to watch her though because she doesn't seem to know when she has had enough. I have been thinking of getting the kiddy blow up pool out and see if she plays in it. We have had a few days of 100+ days but they were followed by finally getting the rain we really needed. I heard a couple older ladies at the quilting group I go to say it has been hard to breathe. But you don't have to be a super senior to feel that way. But this is the part of summer when you start thinking of fall and cooling off. Then if you think about it, when it gets cold you can hardly wait until summer. I guess if I had a choice I could enjoy spring and fall, spring and fall for a while and not get tired of it. Do you suppose most of the Holidays were place in the cold or hot weather to take our minds off the weather? Maybe not. Talking about the weather is a cop-out because I couldn't think of anything else to write. I don't think I got enough sleep last night so I will write again when I can think straight. There is plenty of summer left so have fun. (this whole post looks like a bunch of rambling. But I will post it anyway.) But smile anyway.

Fifteen Pelicans

I can't believe all the pelicans we have on the piers this year. Usually one or two. These have stayed for weeks. I don't know what this means if any thing but they are great to watch. This is one of those moments that you wish you had a better camera.
The weather has been perfect for 3 or 4 days now. Yesterday was the first time I thought about the AC. And then I gave in and turned it on until the sun went down. There were a lot of "weekenders" here this weekend as well as last weekend. So maybe it will be a busy summer in the neighborhood because nobody is going on long vacations. I intend to stick around home and find things to do. The ice cream place, the restaurants here and just going out to the river and gazing out at the passing boats. Oh, and the library. As my family knows I am a book-aholic of the worst kind. I have said many times said I would love to be (accidently) locked in a Barnes & Noble store over night. It even smells wonderful. New books and coffee. Heaven. Mmmmmm.

Well today besides staring out the window at the beautiful day and taking a couple walks, I will be sewing log cabin blocks for a quilt.(An on going process) I haven't even decided yet how big I want it to be. So I don't know how many blocks I need. Maybe I should figure that out soon. Have a great day. I have. I can't be disappointed when I have no plans. Today started as a beautiful day and just got better. By noon I had gotten some chores done and a lot of Web Of Evil read. This afternoon I got 4 blocks done for my log cabin quilt and finished the book. Then I tackled finishing the sweater I am knitting for my granddaughter. I am finished all but tucking the little ends of yarn. Wow. Never saw this day coming. The best holidays happen when you don't have expectations. And I didn't even use any gas. No rain and it wasn't humid. I spent some time cleaning before going to town to get my hair cut and got gas on the way. Good thing I did. Right as I was closing my gas cap a lady came out with a ladder and some numbers. As I drove away I saw that it had gone from $3.89 to $3.95. I heard a man yell something to her and she just said "I can't help it. I just do what they tell me to." Looks like it really will be $4.00 for the 4th of July.

Something about spring and summer holidays makes me want to make good old potato salad. I will be the only one here, so I got 2 potatoes since I have pretty much given up potatoes since my big weight loss. White potatoes, bread and most other carbs. But this potato salad is going to taste wonderful. Yum. A Mike's Hard Lemonade, a soy burger with salsa. Yum again. Makes me happy. What are you eating for this holiday? This is terrible. I am making myself hungry and it is almost time to go to bed with a book. Well I will wind this up by saying --- Have a fun holiday weekend and don't drive too far. But Smile just for the heck of it.

Sleepy Day

What can I say. I just never seemed to completely wake up this morning. The coffee just didn't do the job. I got going with a shower and a cup of tea. Then on the way to get my inspection sticker ( last day) I stopped and got another caffeine drink. When I got home I found myself just barely functioning. As in "on automatic". Filled the washing machine. Mailed a bill. Fixed a salad.

After lunch I found two new books in the mailbox and a Netflix movie. --- The Golden Compass. Wow, wonderful mail. Started the movie and couldn't keep my eyes open. Made a pot of coffee. Looked through the new books and couldn't keep my eyes open. I am sure I slept last night but I did have to close the windows because it got cold in the night. Maybe I should get to bed early tonight and get a really good nights sleep. I really should work some more on the log cabin quilt top tomorrow and the sleeves of the sweater I am making (from the neck down) Oh gosh and I was going to mow the dog's yard today. Ok can't put that off. Hope it wakes me up. See you. Hope you are having a good day. It is promised to be a high of 83 today. The birds are in agreement. I just looked up to see that my hummingbird feeder is empty. I filled it yesterday morning. The hummers are having large birds to share with. There are house finches and flickers drinking from the feeders also. The first time I saw this I was surprised but they have been doing this now for several years. Guess I should get another feeder.

Tasha loves the outdoors and wants to be out until it gets really warm then wants in and out! I find myself thinking of jobs I can do outside as well. I cut an unruly bush yesterday. It has competition. A bramble vine of some kind has wound its way all through the bush and another wild bush that grows every where around the area has taken up residence even though I cut it out as best I can every year. My bush was planted 15 years ago and has grown well (I have groomed it) every year and it is 8' tall but I think that it will eventually have to be cut down. I hate that.

I have a couple quilt tops I really want to get pictures of and post but I keep putting it off. Sorry. But I keep working for a while everyday on my quilts and knitting projects. I picked up a new book that I am really getting into and reading takes up part of my day also.

My house repair projects just don't seem to be getting off the ground as "small job" repairmen are very busy in this area. I do have someone coming on Monday to see if he can do the door frame job. And that project will require replacing the floor covering. The list goes on. I better get going before the day is over. I'll keep working at it.
